Attractive showroom on Clerkenwell Green for long-term client

WB&A have worked with Pledge Office Chairs for more than 10 years, having acquired their first London showroom on Great Sutton Street. With more new entrants coming to the market, they felt that it was time for a move to a larger and more prominent location.

Decisive when they needed to be

We had looked at a number of showroom spaces with Pledge, none of which quite met the brief. Once they saw 13 Clerkenwell Green, however, there was distinct enthusiasm for this very attractive space on this recently pedestrianised square.

It turned out not to even be bigger than their previous space, but the bright airy layout made it feel bigger; the fact that it actually wasn’t made the financials look particularly attractive, too.

We aim never to rush our clients into decision-making, but even more importantly, we don’t allow conflicts of interest or bidding wars.

As it happened, we were also working for another client looking for a space of a similar size. Once Pledge had expressed an interest in this space, we had to tell them that it was on the viewing list of another manufacturer who we would be out with a couple of days later. Since the other client was flying in from overseas, we had no other option than to show the space to them, unless Pledge were willing to commit.

A few phone calls to Head Office later and terms were being drafted.

Smart new showroom

The new Pledge showroom launched at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025. Happily David was able to be at the launch, even though he was already not well. Having been sceptical about the cost of the new space, David was heard to be proudly inviting customers old and new in to see it.

We can honestly say that if there is one showroom that potential clients use a benchmark when specifying their own new space, it’s this one.

Cost effective new space

Despite the showroom’s fantastic location and beautiful frontage, the fact that half of the showroom is on lower ground floor reduced the overall rental to a point where it compared favourably with the cost of the showroom they were leaving.
